What is Acupuncture?

Updated: Jan 13, 2021

Acupuncture involves the insertion of a single use, surgical steel needle into specific, strategic points on the body. Acupuncture is a medical procedure that focuses on correcting imbalances of energy in the body. Acupuncture points are located along meridians (pathways) that carry Qi (flows of energy or life force) throughout the body to various organs and systems. The needles used create micro-traumas that stimulate blood flow and encourage a mild inflammatory reaction to initiate a healing response within the body.

How does acupuncture heal you?

The goal of acupuncture is to restore the balance of energy in the body. Almost anyone can benefit from acupuncture. Because acupuncturists treat patients and not diseases, no two patients receive the same treatment for the same disease. Acupuncture has been found to relieve chronic pain and symptoms that are results of auto-immune diseases. Acupuncture may also be beneficial for those who struggle with emotional disorders such as anxiety and depression or digestive problems such as vomiting, nausea, and IBS. Respiratory conditions, gynecologic disorders, and infertility have also all been treated with acupuncture. The practice has been shown to be beneficial for reducing fatigue and addictions, as well as promoting better overall well-being.
